The first Sprint of the year has come to a close! The Eagles have a lot to reflect on over the upcoming 2-week break. The MS Eagles ask themselves, “How do we apply what we’ve learned over the past 6 weeks? Was it useful? Do I want to know more?” The ES Eagles ask themselves “Where did I fit in in the tribe? What was my role and how did I contribute?” The PS Eagles ask themselves, “How did I feel when I put my feelings onto paper? Did I like using paints, pencil or crayon to draw and colour? Will I continue to create art?”
Weekly Updates
Preschool / Spark Studio (PS) Update
Adelle’s Birthday
The PS studio started the week with a birthday celebration. Happy 5th birthday Adelle, keep growing stronger and happier!
The Eagles loved the fruit cake, yes literal fruit cake! Yums! They were given the task to decide how they wanted to cut the cake and they rose to the challenge.
Art, Wonder Exhibition Preparation
The PS Eagles found it a challenge to prepare for their first-ever Exhibition. The initial plan was to create 3 art pieces before choosing which one to display for the Exhibition but the Eagles struggled with cleaning up the studio (it took 2 days!) and this ate into their art creation time. The consequence was that they only had one day in which to create a piece for the Exhibition.
Aarav’s Farewell
It was a sad day as each Eagle said a few words to Aarav as a way to celebrate the next chapter of his journey — moving to another country.
Some of the sweet words from his friends were:
“Thank you Aarav for sharing your Beyblades with me.”
“I love you Aarav.”
“We will miss you Aarav.”
The studio gave Aarav a gift – a group photo of the PS Eagles, and everyone hugged him.
Mandarin Immersion Program
This week, we had a test run for a Mandarin Immersion program. This program was designed to immerse the Eagles in Mandarin through stories, games, and physical activity.
There was some resistance to the trial program but the Eagles eventually caught on to it. The Eagles even greeted Ms Audrey with, ‘Ni Hao’ at the beginning of the second session. It’s awesome to see how the Eagles are opening up to other languages and learning to have a love and appreciation for them.
Eagle Bucks
During this Sprint, the Studio found work challenging. Some Eagles ended the Sprint with 0 Eagle Bucks. This will continue to be a challenge in the next Sprint but we truly believe they will rise to the challenge!
Taman Tugu
We ended the Sprint with a fun outing to Taman Tugu. The Eagles had a blast exploring nature! Even the guides had fun! We saw snails, monkeys, mushrooms, flowers and really large leaves.
Elementary Studio (ES) Update
Internet Safety
This is the generation when children interact with strangers in the cyber world, so they need to learn to be Internet Smart. We discussed what internet safety is – what you can and cannot share with strangers, the correct language to use and when alarm bells should start to ring and you should alert an adult. It’s not about not allowing them to do it – it’s about teaching them how to do it the safe way.
Little Author Sharing
This week the ES Eagles continued to share about their Hero’s Journeys. They were fascinated by their fellow Eagles’ Hero’s Journey stories and excited to reveal more about themselves to their friends. Many questions flowed back and forth: “How old were you when you ran away?”, “Why were you scared riding on a pony?”, “How old were you when you entered a dance competition?” There was encouragement, support and positive energy for one another and it was a great team-building activity.
Lip Dub Final Feedback Session
The energy was high during the final feedback session! Feedback was given with love, encouragement and hilarity and the Eagles were generally pumped to get the camera rolling again.
Lip Dub Final Filming
The challenge, once again, was – is this our best work? Can we show this on Exhibition Day? The Eagles were full of beans on final filming day, reminding each other that this was the final shot.
The positive energy flowed through into the filming and the Eagles were over-the-moon about the result. Cries of “Yayyy! Finally!!”, “I think this is the best and we are showing this!!”, “I really love this and this is our final one!” were heard all around the Studio. The Eagles experienced how positive energy can affect the outcome of any challenge.
Zuhair’s Birthday
Amidst the Exhibition preparations, the Eagles celebrated Zuhair’s birthday with him. His parents brought cupcakes for everyone and all the Eagles enjoyed them. The birthday boy was all smiles as he shared his love with everyone and they sent love back to him. Always keep positive and happy, Zuhair!
Ice Skating Celebration
The Eagles were treated to an ice skating session after all their hard work. Challenges on the ice were faced head-on and, with love and encouragement from each other, many Eagles overcame their fears and gave skating a shot without a care of falls and wet clothes.
Abhi and Ee Wern Farewell
The Eagles were sad to say farewell to 2 of their fellow journeyers – Abhi and Ee Wern. There was positive energy and love for them as they prepared to open a new chapter in their Hero Journeys. We wish you the best wherever you go, brave Eagles!
Middle Studio (MS) Update
Biology Hero Biography Pitch Practice Round, Display/Experiment Prep, Exhibition Walkthrough & Biology Bee Rehearsal
The MS had a lot to prepare for the Exhibition and came to the Dry Run partially ready, but were able to fully conduct Dry Run 1 within 1 hour and 10 mins. Last-minute enhancements were made to each team’s exhibits like Team Plants dripping a little food dye onto the flower’s petals to fully showcase how plants absorb water.
Kudos to the Exhibition Team who were able to organise the MS Eagles to convert the Studio into an Exhibition Hall and a stage for the Biology Hero Biography Pitch and Biology Bee Competition! There was a lot of logistics involved!
Now we are heading into a 2-week break. Happy holidays Eagles! Come back fresh and ready for more passionate discovery! Sprint 2 promises more exploration of the biological world as the MS Eagles probe into Medical Biology and, for the ES Eagles, more self-exploration as they examine what determines their curiosity.
Stay tuned for the next blog all about the Exhibition!
Farewell to Miss Mee Kuan
This Sprint, we also bid farewell to Miss Mee Kuan, who has guided the Elementary Studio. Her family is relocating and the Eagles made a farewell card for her. Thank you Miss Mee Kuan—we will miss you!
