Weekly Updates
The last week of Sprint 4 was a flurry of activity at home to prepare for the Virtual Exhibition. Videos were tweaked and finalised and written work for the ES and MS Writer’s Workshops were photographed with the Eagle’s best effort. Plans were also made for the 1-week break because Acton Eagles like to keep busy doing things!
Preschool / Spark Studio (PS) Update
Virtual Exhibition Preparation
Excitement for the Virtual Exhibition was at fever pitch this week. The PS Eagles all had their own way of approaching the process.
One parent shared that her Eagle was so eager to make her video that she wanted to skip to the challenge and not do the others. Upon review, however, she decided to complete most of the challenges, only skipping one step. This was a great learning curve for her as she came to trust the process and face failure along the way.
Adelle went through a few rounds of practice runs ‘frying’ her ‘donut’ (a plastic toy ring) in ‘oil’ (water).
Azalea and Aaralyn rehearsed their lines by pretending with the tools. After they had made the video, they watched it again to spot where they could improve, resulting in multiple rounds of videoing.
Many Eagles also decided to get involved in the editing process. Good work, PS Eagles!
Elementary Studio (ES) Update
Virtual Exhibition Preparation
The ES Eagles went through a learning curve putting together their slides for the Virtual Exhibition. There was minimal supervision, but they were able to produce quality work, so kudos to the Eagles!
MCO EXtension and Home Celebration
As the MCO was extended remote learning was continued for the Launches, Core Skills, Exhibition preparation and other activities. Parents continued to serve as Eagles’ buddies and the Eagles continued their modified home schedules based on the daily schedules sent out by the Guides. With the Writer’s Workshop work more or less complete, the Eagles were thrilled to delve into other skills, especially magic and illusion!
In lieu of the normal Sprint Final Day Celebration, the Eagles were happy to have Home Celebrations with their parents. They were encouraged to video the event and share it with their Studio to generate a sense of celebration with everyone.
Lucas made and enjoyed a silly shake, Zuhair performed some of the magic tricks he learned. Arjun made a Nutella milkshake and had a Disney movie marathon and Xania and Xavi made mac and cheese and chocolate chip cookies, Vega made pancakes and enjoyed a fancy Danish dinner and Rosalie enjoyed tea time with her family. Jared made popcorn and Apsie also made popcorn which she enjoyed with S’mores during a movie time. Jasmine made a chocolate Nutella milkshake and drank it while watching movies. All in all, the Eagles had a blast!
Kahoot!
Thank you to Jared and his family for hosting a Kahoot Zoom session for the Studio! Playing a game together almost reminded everyone of the normal Fun Friday game sessions. The Eagles and Guides had so much fun and vowed to play Kahoots again in the future!
Farewell to Suyan, Rosalie and Lewis
The Eagles sent a warm farewell to Sufyan, Rosalie and Lewis who are moving on in their life journeys. Sufyan has been with Acton since nearly the beginning and has blossomed into a thoughtful, energetic and dedicated young man. Keep your powerful energy up, wherever life takes you, Sufyan!
Rosalie and Lewis joined the Acton family recently as part of their World Schooling experience, yet have become beloved members of the community. We wish you all the best wherever your travels take you, Rosalie and Lewis, and thank you for sharing your unique experiences and world views with us! Always fly on the wind of your fellow Eagles’ love, all three of you!
Middle Studio (MS) Update
Monday Morning Launch
The Eagles who were present watched a clip of a College Football Opening Ceremony – an event similar to what they would go on to experience in the Virtual Exhibition on Thursday. Each Eagle shared what they planned to do for the Exhibition and the plan was that they would report on their progress at the Afternoon Huddle. The question put to them was, ” What’s absolutely critical today if you want to be ready Thursday at 9am?”
Tuesday Afternoon Huddle
At the Afternoon Huddle, Morris gave himself a 6/10. His reason was, “I was not motivated this morning, and a bit late on work. I will sleep better tonight.”
Ra’ees gave himself a 7/10 with his feedback being, “I could have woken earlier, I will have a louder alarm tomorrow.”
Aqeesha gave herself a 5/10. She said, “I am proud of my Quest work, but I am a little behind at work. I will sleep earlier tonight.”
Dhanya gave herself an 8/10 but admitted, “I got distracted, but was OK later on. I will not look at screens tomorrow and will work outside of my room , to avoid being distracted.”
It’s great to see the MS Eagles finding ways to fine-tune their work habits.
Virtual Exhibition Dry Run
The MS Eagles held a Virtual Exhibition Dry Run to run through the flow of the event. The MS Eagles took the opportunity to share their Personal Financial stories, answering the question, “What kind of life will I have when I am 25 years old?”
The Eagles were energized and quickly finished polishing their final documents, slides and videos for the online display. (Haidan, who had volunteered as the Exhibition Manager for Sprint 4) admitted openly and honestly that he would not be able to complete his Quest Challenges enough to have them displayed for the Virtual Exhibition. “I apologize for being unable to join on Thursday and that this email is coming out so late. I hope the Eagles forgive me and I am so proud that you guys had the responsibility to finish your work. With all this said, I will continue to be the Exhibition Manager and help out as much as I can to ensure that you guys have a smooth running Exhibition.”
Haidan went on to scrutinize details of the MS Eagles’ work for quality and consistency among all the Eagles. We’d like to send a Character Callout to Haidan for his bravery and honesty in admitting his challenges.
Have a great break from school and enjoy the time together! We’ll see you again on Monday 27th May!
