Preschool / Spark Studio (PS) Update
Fun Friday Packs
On Friday, the PS Eagles opened up the Week 4 Fun Pack which consisted of 2 art & craft projects – a Northern Lights Art Pack and a Build a Paper Tower Art Pack. What a fun way to spend Fun Friday … creating!
Adjusting for Momentum
With MCO 3.0 implemented, a lot of adjustments were made in each PS Eagle’s household to continue the momentum for learning. It is a challenge for the Eagles to be apart from their friends, but they persevere, nonetheless.
Staying Plugged In
The Eagles make the most out of the situation, attending the 9am Morning and 2pm Afternoon Zoom Meetings as regularly as possible. That keeps the energy high for learning and having fun doing it.
Quotes of the Week
Weekly Elementary Studio (ES) Update
Back to Virtual
The Studio is back in virtual mode again for the next 3 weeks. The Eagles re-adapted quickly to the virtual schooling environment. Some quotes:
“I like that I can wake up later, but I don’t like that school is online.”
“I want physical school!”
“I don’t like virtual school, why!”
Taking On PE
This round the Eagles took on the responsibility of setting their own PE activities. The only directive is that they are to choose between individual or group PE sessions. They came up with 2 ways to keep each other accountable in this virtual environment – take short videos of themselves doing PE or have their cameras turned on during their PE sessions.
“I went cycling today.”
“I can’t take my laptop down to the playground so I’ll keep accountable with my parents, they know that I have gone down to the playground.”
“I did ballet.”
“We did dancing together.”
Managing Challenges
Some new Eagles were already feeling a little lost and with school being virtual, things were made all the more challenging.
Breaking down tasks into smaller chunks and setting weekly or Sprint-ly (6-week-stretch) achievable goals can help Eagles to manage what is expected of them and also help parents manage their own expectations. An example of how this looks like would be:
Identifying the big rock, working on Core Skills. Setting the goal – the Eagle is to be able to complete Core Skills independently. The energy and focus is then targeted at completing their Core Skills independently. This helps with managing expectations and clarity of focus.
Launch on Freedom and Responsibilities
At the end of the week, the Studio had a Launch on Freedom and Responsibilities. Here are a couple of the questions that were posted in this Launch:
“What Freedom do you value most at this school and what Responsibilities come with this Freedom?”
“The Freedom I value most is the Freedom to learn something deeper. I can choose to learn about cats and I can learn as much as I want. The Responsibility is to be responsible in doing things.”
“The Freedom I value the most is that I am able to use the computer whenever I want, not like other schools where unassigned time is given. The Responsibility would be that I need to keep focused and not watch YouTube or do other things when I am supposed to be working.”
“I like that we can choose what Core Skills to work on and the Responsibility is to actually do it.”
With great Freedom comes great Responsibility.
