Creating Maps on Google Jamboard

A highlight of the week was the introduction of Google Jamboard – a whiteboard app that the PS Eagles are to use in tandem with their daily Google Meets.

Sprint 6’s Quest is Survivor – and what better way to learn about your surroundings than creating maps. The aim was for the Eagles to create maps for their family to find items that they had hidden. Some of the Eagles used their new Google Jamboard tool to create their maps, some stuck to pencil and paper.

SO used the Google Jamboard to create a treasure map of her house for her parents and grandparents.
ZA drew this map for her brother and parents on Jamboard. “My brother could not find the treasure I hid for him.”
IA prepared a hand drawn treasure map for his mum. He hid her handphone inside a tissue box.
SH prepared this treasure map for his dad, mum and sister. “My daddy could not find what I was hiding!”

Raising Hand and Taking Turns

Raising hands and taking turns to talk or participate became a challenge for the PS Eagles this week. With so many activities lined up during the 9am and 2pm meetings, the PS Eagles were so eager to voice their opinions/provide answers that they resorted to shouting over the Google Meet platform and were not able to wait their turn to draw and doodle on the Jamboard.

The Guides praised the Eagles who were honourable to their promise of taking turns and raising their hands if they wanted to say something, while gently reminded those who did not.

Weekly Elementary Studio (ES) Update

The ES Eagles are back for their final Sprint of the year – Survivor! (stay at home edition). They were excited and eager to complete this week’s challenges.

Foraging

For their first challenge, the Eagles were tasked at exploring and researching both edible insects and plants.

“Crickets!? Ew, can we eat crickets?”

“Spiders!”

An Eagle shared what she could forage from her garden. Wow, look at all those greens!

Homemade Trap

After completing the pioneer challenge, the Eagles then moved to the challenge to create a homemade trap from recycled items.

Wonder if the Eagles actually tried trapping with their traps?

Knots

On the following day, the Eagles worked on knots. Learning and exploring different types of knots. This was one of the knots that the Eagles found challenging – the alpine butterfly knot.

After trying and trying and asking for some help, some Eagles were able to complete it!

The alpine butterfly knot … a knotty challenge.

Ah! Success!

A great start for the first week! We are hoping that we will be able to go for our annual Camping Trip at the end of the Sprint. Fingers crossed!
