This week at Acton KL, the Eagles moved forward with their SMART goals. More Eagles were keeping track of their goals and challenging themselves to achieve more. Yay! We started the week with “How can we focus better to achieve our goals?” Some Eagles chose to have fixed seating arrangements in order to help them concentrate while others started setting time blocks during Core Skills. I am so proud of how far our Eagles have come since Session 1 and cannot wait to see them grow more!

Also, we started drafting the Rules of Engagement for Circle Time. For this week, the Eagles voted to try the rule, “Always raise your hand before speaking”. It was definitely challenging for everyone but we are constantly reminding each other to try our best. Even Miss Caryn is not spared from this rule. One day during Circle Time, Abhiram, our youngest Eagle, raised his hand suddenly and said this, “Miss Caryn, you have to raise your hand before you speak too.” In shock, I asked him, “Why?” and he confidently replied and was echoed by the rest, “Because you are equal to us.” 🙂 Thank you, dear Eagles for reminding me to uphold my standards too.
Outside the studio, Eagles had some fun with directions, angles and the compass. With the help of Middle School Eagles, our young Eagles explored the park using a compass. There were many confusing moments but more importantly, they all gave it a try! We may be trying more of it during the upcoming insect study field trip to the forest. 🙂

This week’s Writers’ Workshop continued with more brainstorming and journaling about insects! The young Eagles learned about the different classes of animals, researched about insects, discovered interesting facts about them and finally, presented their findings to the studio. It was also many Eagles’ first time learning to use Google for research. Challenging, but rewarding! Did you know that a silkworm mother lays up to 500 eggs each summer?

During Project Time, the Eagles spent time building their Super Insects, first on the computer and then getting their hands dirty at Arts and Crafts time. Using the basic characteristics of an insect, they created many different types of unique insects with powers that can save the world! Come find out more at our next exhibition. Also, a big thank you to the Parents for exploring and building Super Insects with our Eagles at home!

The week ended with an Info Session for prospective families on Friday! Our MS and ES Eagles ran the whole show. Without much instruction from Miss Caryn, the young Eagles excitedly delegated tasks among themselves, worked together to clean the studio, rehearsed their roles and off they went for show time! Children are capable of so much when we trust in them. 🙂
