Those Standardized Tests…

Something new. Will it work? Skepticism looms in all new ventures, new methods or new faces. ActonKL was all of those two years ago.

Every education venture deserved this question: How do the learners perform? While we have many ways to prove one’s worth. Standardized test still provides an insight due to its consistency. We had data from the 10-year-old campus in Acton Academy Austin. Their Eagles progressed on average two grades a year. Most of their high schoolers test out of high school. It starts slowly in the ES, as the focus is on honing habits. Then, boom! The Middle School sprint their way to three to four grades above their age. Soon, they are placed out of high school. In other words, the Eagles in Austin pass high school four to five years in advance, at 14 to 15 years old. Fantastic—Acton Academy works!

But that is Acton Austin. We are ActonKL. Different! Here’s a template for all arguments. You are (insert name) and you are different. Pathetic and the lowest level in the disagreement hierarchy. Still, we had no results to show until recently. Our Eagles took the same IOWA test, a state-based standardized test on Core Skills. Here are their results:

Broadly, our Eagles are ahead of their grade level. The Middle School is strong, with an average 2 to 4 grades above their Grade Level. This is just one grade difference versus Austin, who has a more established system and culture. We admit that both the Elementary and Middle School can work more on Math.

Congratulations to the Eagle community for sticking it through. The academic result is just a small part of the Hero’s Journey that Eagles took. They had pursued apprenticeships, staged shows, built games, and many more. These are what we care about more.
