The first Exhibition of the year, and what a way to ring in the new year!
Throughout the Sprint, the PS Eagles explored art – what it meant to them and its many facets, mediums and styles. In this creative exploration, they discovered what stimulates them, what they gravitate towards and what styles they themselves prefer to create.
The ES Eagles went through self-reflection and forged strong bonds within their tribe. Through collaboration, self-analysis and the examination of the trials and successes of those they admire, they came to understand more where they want their own Hero’s Journeys to go and how their Journeys can intertwine successfully with their fellow Eagles’ to build a successful tribe.
The MS Eagles examined the wonderful world of Biology, focusing on Evolution in particular. In exploring how every living organism came to be and how everything is intertwined, they discovered what it means to be a small but crucial aspect of a larger whole. From this understanding, they realised two things – that what we do affects everything around us and that we need to know as much about everything around us as we can in order to know ourselves deeper.
Artistic expression, creativity and scientific discovery … a da Vinci dream indeed!
PS Art, Wonder Exhibition
There was nervous but excited energy on the actual day of the PS Studio’s first-ever Exhibition. 10am sharp, all of the PS Eagles were ready at their stations with their chosen pieces framed and displayed for viewing. As the parents and guests walked in, the Eagles confidently and courageously showcased their artwork to everyone who approached them. Many Eagles ended up showcasing the whole of their artwork portfolio and spent time explaining a little about each piece. Kudos to the PS Eagles for sharing so well and answering all the questions so patiently!

Overall, the PS Eagle’s first Exhibition was a success in two ways – the Eagles confidently showcased their artwork and everyone learned what they were capable of and what they still needed to work on.
ES Build a Tribe Exhibition
Hero’s Journey Map, Hero’s Biography Viewing and Hero’s Journey Sharing
The ES Exhibition kicked off with the sharing of the Eagle’s Hero’s Journeys. Guests were invited to view the Eagle’s Hero’s Journeys and talk to the Eagles to gain more insight into their personal growth. One Eagle shared, “I learned that new things can be good, too.” Another Eagle shared that they are getting better at focusing every day with lots of practise.
The Eagles were very open and honest, answering questions thoughtfully and reflectively. They also shared the biographies they wrote about their personal heroes detailing what they admired about these heroes and what takeaway they gained from their stories. “Wilma Rudolph didn’t let her legs not working stop her from doing what she wanted to do.” “Michael Jordan wasn’t even a basketball player … he played baseball in the beginning!”
To round off the sharing session, some Ee Wern and Lucas stood up and confidently presented their journeys to the assembled audience.
Lip Dub
And … drum roll please … the ES Eagles were proud and excited to present … the ES Studio 2019 Lip Dub of Katy Perry’s ‘Firework’! The Lip Dub was the culmination of 6 weeks of learning the words of the song, creating and practising the choreography and filming and re-filming until they got it just right. The blood, sweat and tears paid off … check the video out and see for yourself!
The viewing session was kicked off by a video message from Arjun who was traveling at the time of the Exhibition. He sent his energy back to his friends and introduced the Lip Dub.
Kudos goes to the production team who helmed the choreography, editing, camera and speaker. Kudos also goes to the Eagles who calmly and persistently overcame technical difficulties to get the viewing on the road. And … big kudos to the performers who dubbed their hearts out and poured everything into a fantastic production, bloopers and all!
Contract Signing
The energy turned solemn again as the ES Eagles lined up to sign their contract for the new year. Everything the Eagles envisioned for the year was brainstormed over, tested out and written down over the Sprint. There were many trials and errors and from these trials emerged the Eagle’s promises that they made to themselves and each other to create the best for their new year.
This round, the Exhibition was helmed by an Eagle who stepped up to the plate and guided her fellow Eagles to be their best selves as well as handling the logistics of organising an event. Kudos to Apsie for a successful Exhibition!
MS Biology – Evolution Exhibition
Biology Hero Biography Pitch
Over the Sprint, the MS Eagles were challenged to research into their chosen Biography Heroes and condense the reasons they admired them down into 30 second pitches. These pitches were presented during the first session of the Exhibition. All the Eagles were very well rehearsed, only one Eagle went over time and was clapped off.
Experiments/Displays
The second session of the Exhibition consisted of experiment and research display booths. The guests, who had been split into 5 groups during registration, were given 5 minutes to experience each booth and ask questions.
Team Cells
Team Cells examined red blood cells by actually extracting some from one of their own members! It was displayed under a microscope for guests to examine and compare to a chart showing healthy cells versus unhealthy cells.
Another experiment examining osmosis in cells was done with potatoes and presented via a video presentation.
Team Plants
Team Plants presented several experiments that showed how plants responded to various stimuli like music, light and water. They concluded that plants responded better to softer light and calmer music and, in a bonus experiment, took it one step further with the question: Can plants grow in artificial light?
They also presented an interesting experiment with food dye to show how water travels through the stalk of a flower up to the petals.
Team Animals
Team Animals presented a fascinating study into animals that exhibit human behavioural traits such as dolphins, chimpanzees, crabs and even honey bees! They showed that certain animals expressed their emotions, used tools, exhibited and could interpret body language and even had a sense of morality.
Team Humans
Team Humans delved into the role DNA plays in evolution, putting forth a very interesting theory that evolution came about thanks to mutation and not adaptation or survival of the fittest.
Team Biosphere
Team Biosphere presented a pretty example of a biosphere: a bunch of flowers growing in soil encased in a bottle. They demonstrated how, in this ecosystem, the resources of air and water are recycled. They also asked the question: ‘How does an ecosystem jar compare to planet Earth?’
Biology Bee
The third session was a Biology Bee hosted by Eagle Katelynn in which the MS Eagles were asked questions that tested their research as well as their insights throughout the Biology: Evolution Sprint. During the competition, the Eagles were given 2 Lifelines – Lifeline 1 with which they could take a 30 second Internet Timeout and Lifeline 2 with which they could ‘Ask Katelynn’ for a clue/part of the answer for the Teams to elaborate on. Answer of the day? Gibran: “If I had to explain what a cell is to a 5 year old, I would tell him to imagine that if the human body is made up entirely of Lego pieces, then a cell would be a very small Lego block.”
The Exhibition closed with each Eagle answering the question: “What were the biggest lessons that you learned from the Biology: Evolution Quest?”
Kudos to the Exhibition organising team for the smooth transitions between the 3 sessions and the overall organisation of the event which was insightful and informative and showcased a good cross-section of knowledge gained and the Eagle’s personal understanding and insight of this knowledge.
