My Dream Home/Art Challenges/Apprenticeship Preparation 2020 Sprint 6 Week 3

School is reopening soon! What with the PS Studio already open, the excitement is mounting amongst the older Studios that they will soon be reunited in their own Studios to work and play together again! June 15th is highly anticipated by the MS Eagles and June 22nd is equally longed for by the ES Eagles.

Preschool / Spark Studio (PS) Update

It’s heartening to see that the PS Eagles take the importance of following the SOPs seriously. All of this week the Guide observed them helping each other remember the guidelines.

Creativity in Work and Play

With the limitations on using toys and materials in the Studio due to the SOPs in place, the PS Eagles began being creative this week. With just paper, tape and pencils, the Eagles started creating ‘toys’ for play. Examples of ‘toys’ they came up with: money, Xbox game controllers, pop up cards, kites, and ninja stars.

Check out my kite!

My game controller is easy to handle.

Working Up to a Flow

One PS Eagle found themself struggling with work and found it difficult to achieve the minimum points for a challenge. A day later, he proudly came to the Guide and shared that he had managed to score the Studio’s minimum point requirement. The Guide asked him what he had done differently from the previous day and he explained that he completed the easy tasks first, getting them out of the way before tackling the more challenging tasks. The Guide was truly proud that this PS Eagle was owning his Learning Journey. Keep it up, PS Eagles!

Elementary Studio (ES) Update

Art Challenges

The challenges this week were to draw a dinosaur body for their pet/stuffed toy and to cut off half of a picture and try to complete it using their own creativity.

The ES Eagles got to show off their pets and challenge themselves to get their pet to cooperate and stay still long enough to take a picture with the dinosaur body. It was fun to involve other family members in this challenge.

In completing the picture, the ES Eagles harnessed their creativity to finish the other half of the picture. They tried to match the colours and add their own features and interpretations to enhance the original picture.

The Art Sharing session this week was jovial:

“I want to eat the cake!”

“That’s impressive. My cat wouldn’t stay still enough to do that. She would probably move about and it would end up ripping.”

Writer’s Workshop

The journal prompts this week were provided by Jasmine and Clara.

* You just found out that your greatest weakness is actually your superpower. Describe who you are as a superhero and how your superpower works.

* If you has a superpower, what would it be? What will you do with it?

* Would you rather have the ability to fly or the ability to turn invisible?

* You discovered that your city has a new superhero. What monster will they fight? What will their name be? Describe the new superhero.

Here are some of their responses:

If I was a superhero I would be caring to all people who care and save nature. I would love animals and would do anything to save them and use my powers to save Earth. As a superhero I would be caring, and if anyone would hurt any animal or destroy nature then I would destroy them.

I would have powers of weather and also the elements which includes anything with fire, water, earth and air. I would ear a cape which would be blue and coloured and the logo would be a rain cloud with a thunderbolt on it.

For example, I could create a storm out of my hands or I could create entire jungles out of my palms.

Un-focusing

Distractor-boy

I can focus at some times but ONLY sometimes.

My superpower is to distract people from something.

Like, this is useful if the bad guys are cornering someone. I can distract them and fly away with the person the bad guys were cornering.

I will distract the bad guys with my super invisible distraction plasma (don’t worry, it does not hurt).

If they attack me they won’t get distracted because they are looking at the main source because one super power can’t be that good. Since I can’t distract them I use the classic laser vision.

Otherwise, I would not even be a superhero if I used one power the whole time.

As you know in my previous story I told you about invisibility and flying and you also know that I’m a superhero anyways this week I was flying around the city and then I saw a poster which said that a new superhero would be here, it said that it will fight a monster called the electric monster its name was Shocker and its power was electric power, and it will come in a few seconds and it will spawn in our hero base I quickly rushed back to the hero base and saw all the superheroes there with our leader captain earth whos power was earth, I quickly formed a circle with them and then Shocker arrived we greeted him warmly and then he flew all the way to the cave where the electric monster was he used all his energy and power to defeat and finally he did he flew back here immediately and thats when Captain Earth said that we will fight the world together so we all flew off to find the bad guys and fight them.

I was just walking in a shopping mall when I suddenly I saw a flyer:

New Superhero In Town Asduon! Keep a look out for him if you are lucky you might be able to catch him at Don’s Shopping Mall. 10 July 2020. He might even give you his autograph! Look out for more flyers about him just in case you don’t meet him or don’t have time.

I suddenly realized that it was the 10th of July today, I started to panic. I wanted to go see this superhero but I was worried I might not have time. So, I quickly checked my calendar on my phone and I had time. I was so excited.

I arrived at Don’ Shopping Mall at eight and then mall closed at ten so I had two hours. One hour to get shopping (because I couldn’t finish my shopping in the other market_ and the other hour to see Asduon.

I finished my shopping at nine so I didn’t have much time left. I put my shopping into the back of the car and I saw a flyer of the location where he is:

Come see the new superhero in town Asduon! At Level 2 but he packs up and leaves at 10 to go save the world so be quick before you miss him!

“Level 2,” I said to myself.

I was on the Ground floor.

“There is not lift! I’m gonna have to take the escalator but it is all the way at the other end of the shopping area.” I quickly ran to the end and got on the escalator as I was on the escalator when I realized that if I missed going to see Asduon today I can always see him tomorrow. I sighed in relief.

I was on the second escalator when I was looking back on the flyer I saw in the morning. (I took a picture of it and was looking at it and my phone) When suddenly, I read a sentence which I missed earlier.

Only today!

“Uh oh!” I said. “I can’t see him any other day.” So, I quickly ran up the escalator and I was just in time. The place was a bit crowded but I managed to see a little bit of him here is what I saw:

He was big and tall and looked a bit like Superman. There was a flyer next to him, I think he wrote it.

Hello Fellow Fans! My name is Asduon. I am your new superhero. Today, I will be facing my first enemy called Slither Bug. I am very pleased to help save your city and I promise I will do my best. I hope that today I can beat Slither and make your city proud. But I must leave at 10 o’clock for that is when I prepare to face Slither Bug. Maybe some other day when I am free I can come back to this Supermall and sign more papers.

Your’s truly,

Asduon

I managed to get Asduon’s autograph and head back home just before the “Supermall” closed. I’m not sure if Asduon didn’t know how to spell Shopping Mall properly or if he did that on purpose. But, what matters is that we have a new superhero and I’m sure we will be safe.

“Today, there’s a newly created catastrophe here in Melibore. An evil scientist called Professor Von Vault is taking over the city! We have spotted an octopus-like creature near The Jaguar Museum. But fortunately, we have a new superhero trying to take care of all this. The superhero’s name: Firelight! Will Firelight defeat this evil monster and his master? Find out more on www.news.com. Thank you for watching and bye!”

“Hopefully Firelight will be able to defeat Professor Vault.” I look outside my window and see Firelight battling the monster. Let’s look at how he fights. He has a red cape and a blue shirt, kind of like Superman. He’s not flying, but he can soar a bit. He’s very smart. He’s trapping the octopus in it own tentacles! Oh, he’s very brave. Wow! Amazing moves. The octopus is defeated? OH YAY!! But what about Professor Vault? Oh he’s gone too. Yay for Firelight!

I turned the news back on.

“As we have seen, the monster is defeated as well as the scientist! We have Firelight right here, we’re going to hear from him about how he did it.” (passes microphone) “Well citizens of Melibore, the monster and scientist are defeated. There’s really nothing special about how I defeated them.” (Camera turns off.)

Wow. Firelight is awesome!

PE

This week’s PE was led by Xania. There was a round of scavenger hunt before the HIIT exercise.

The lead Eagles continue to make important choices based on the situation. How do they lead the group towards a successful Zoom meeting?

Eagle-Led Closing Circle

Different ES Eagles have been leading the closing circle over the past week, encouraging their fellow Eagles to share what went well for the day and what challenges they faced. The opportunity to lead a circle has been a good experience for those who have volunteered as it has built their confidence and leadership skills. This is the first step in the Guide stepping back to make room for the ES Eagles to step forward and take charge of their own Studio. Baby steps win the day!

At the end of the session, the ES Eagles organized games as a way to bond and unwind together.

Middle Studio (MS) Update

Morning Launches

On Monday morning the MS Eagles broke the ice with something totally different. They played a round of ‘Potter Head Trivia’ Evan won with 400 points and the tie breaker. The first runner up was Dhanya with 300 points followed by Gibran with 50 points.

On Tuesday morning, Evan, Aqeesha, Dhanya and Gibran played Animal Trivia. Evan was the winner with 200 points, followed by Aqeesha with 150 points, with Dhanya and Gibran tying in third place with 100 points.

Evan, Dhanya and Gibran and the faithfuls who regularly attend all Morning and Mid-morning Launches throughout the week.
As it was last week, Gibran was not prepared to host the Trivia, but was able to put in effort and made the best of the situation.

Again, Evan took over from Gibran and did what he could to host the Trivia Session. The trivia took the form of a pop quiz again, without any interactions as a Studio.

Thursday Midday Launch

In movies, especially Kung Fu movies, the Master/Apprentice relationship is idealised. What aspect of the relationship is realistic?

  1. Is it the trust that the Apprentice has in the Master – to do anything unquestioningly?
  2. Is it the one on one relationship between the Master and the Apprentice?
  3. Is it something else?

The MS Eagles watched 2 Kung Fu movie excerpts and discussed the question. Ra’ees said that he agreed with Dhanya – that it is the trust that the Apprentice builds up for their Master. “I don’t think that it is a hurtful relationship because the Master pushes you to train you and to get you tougher. I would get upset internally, but I’ll get used to it.”

At the Thursday Morning Launch, the question asked was, “Do you agree with the idealised versions of the Master and Apprentice relationship in both movie clips?”
Tuesday Midday Launch on ‘Warm Introductions’.

Overall, it has been another challenging week for the MS Eagles as fewer and fewer are showing up for the Morning and Midday Launches. As many as 2 End of the Day Huddles were completely missed. Let’s look towards Week 4 to work towards bringing the energy up amongst the MS Eagles.
