Rocket Science 2020-2021 Sprint 4 Week 4

Weekly Updates

Preschool / Spark Studio (PS) Update

Motivation

When asked what their favourite time of the week was, the Eagles answered that they enjoyed Work Time the most this week, earning Points to be converted into Eagles Bucks and making a total spending of 7 EBs on Friday (Eagle Buck Store Day).

SH using up the 4EBs (saved up over 4 weeks) to buy a car.
AA purchases an Access Ticket which grants her access to 1 Play Time.

Quest: Rocket Science

We conducted the Balloon Parachute (Egg Drop) Experiment this week in the Eagles’ Quest to save the Shopkins who had fallen into the deepest hole in the world. This time, instead of asking for rockers, the Shopkins asked the PS Heroes to send some food. ‘Can the PS Eagles please drop some eggs down the hole for the Shopkins? But don’t break the eggs!’

We need more tape and more balloons.
We have finished. Can we drop it now?
Balloon parachute!
IA and AR dropping their parachute. Bombs away!
AN: We can parachute down the eggs. Our egg cracked a bit. SH: Our balloon popped. SO: We dropped our parachute 7 times. That means we gave the Shopkins 7 eggs.
OR: Our egg did not break.
AR: We dropped once but our 2 eggs did not break. IA: We used 7 balloons. AA: Using more balloons is better. It gets to protect the egg better.

Weekly Elementary Studio (ES) Update

Launch?

This week, the ES Eagles continued working on launching rockets. For this week, they tried an experiment using balloons to lift objects up to ‘space’ (the Studio ceiling).

After many attempts, however, the Eagles didn’t manage to create a rocket strong enough to lift paper clips up to the ceiling. The most successful group managed to have their rocket stay mid-air for a couple of minutes. Another Eagle tried another design, but he wasn’t successful either.

Over the next few days, the Eagles were busy designing their rockets for Exhibition. They decided on their design and ‘fuel’ to launch their rockets.

Let’s try another way …

Fun Friday

We ended the week with the Studio’s tradition of having Fun Friday. The Eagles work hard all week to complete a series of tasks to qualify for this celebration.

The activity for the celebration is decided by the Eagles during Town Hall and for this week, the Eagles decided to watch a movie together.

There were a handful of Eagles who couldn’t qualify for Fun Friday, however. As part of the process, they had to sit out from the celebration and continue working. After Fun Friday, these Eagles spend some time reflecting on how they can do things differently the best week.

“I will focus better by removing distractions.”

“I will work more on different Core Skills.”

“I need to remember to update my Journey Tracker and also work on other Core Skills, not just one.”

Work Time is Work Time, then Play Time is more valuable.
