Preschool / Spark Studio (PS) Update

Cooking with Fire

Monday of Week 4’s Quest Challenge: Cooking with Fire! At 9am, the PS Eagles prepared to cook chocolate milk and Chocolate Batik Cake over a tealight candle fire.

The Eagles watched a video of what to do before starting.

SH used a pencil to pierce a hole into the aluminum cup.

IA using last week’s match lighting skills to light up the tealight. He was determined to light it up himself.

AA used her experience from last week’s Fire Challenge to light the tealight up too, so that she could start the cooking.

AA pours some milk into the mini aluminum tray.

ZA had a taste of the chocolate chip that she used an ingredient for the day.

IA pours in more chocolate chips.

Once the milk is hot, in goes the chocolate.

Stir well and add the crushed biscuits.

Mix the biscuits well into the chocolate.

IA says that he can stir it for himself.

OR has finished her cooking. Now to extinguish the fire.

AA shows her finished Batik Cake.

As as extension, the PS Eagles were invited to cook pancakes with fire for their whole family. AN used the pancake mix provided.

What an adventure! A cooking adventure for the Survival Quest.

Show and Tell

The twice weekly Show and Tell sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays continue online. This week, JE showcased his coding skills LIVE!

JE set up a shared screen during the morning’s Google Meet. “I’m going to show you my coding on Scratch,” he said.

JE performs proficiently from scratch!

JE’s live coding on Scratch was both exhilarating and and inspiring to watch.

That Show and Tell session sparked a lot of attention, and during JE’s Question and Answer session, many Eagles had questions for him. SH asked, “Can you change that cat into something else?”

Special Celebrations

On Monday, the PS Eagles celebrated AN’s virtual Birthday Walk with a Google Slide presentation.

AN setting up his birthday pancakes and Chocolate Batik Cake that he made for himself.

Are you ready? For every year of AN’s age, he runs one round around the candle to symbolise his journey around the sun. As he does so, the PR Eagles sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to him.

H For each year, the PS Eagles get to see AN’s photos and read AN’s journey.

Happy birthday, AN! Does your Batik Cake taste good?

Weekly Elementary Studio (ES) Update

This week, the ES Eagles continued to discover more about themselves … and safety.

Who Am I?

The Eagles drew identity maps, answering questions like “What are your best traits?” “What are some things that are really important to you?” “Who is really important to you?” “What motivates you?” “What ideas inspire you?” and, most importantly, “What makes you … you?”

Here are some of their maps:

Safety First … and Second … and Third

The ES Eagles then worked on their first aid challenges. For these, they had to partner up and, since they were all at home, their partners were their parents or siblings. There were some challenges when it came to working with younger siblings for some of the Eagles, however:

“My sister won’t keep still.”

“Brother didn’t want to be the victim and he also didn’t want to be the one helping.”

“You could use a soft toy too, if you don’t have a sibling or if your parents are busy.”

L applying a pressure bandage on his dad.

“Is the splint snug enough?”

“Is the sling comfy?”

The Eagles then went on to research what to do if someone chokes, gets a cut, burn or fracture.

Keep on practising your survival skills, Eagles! Until next week.
