Survival Quest Challenge: Camp Games

Question: what can we do when camping? The answer? Play games, of course! They explored 3 classic old-time games: Morse Code Decoding, Batu Seremban (5 Stones), and the Bottle Cap Flicking game.

Let’s learn morse code!

Can you blow a long sound and a short sound with your whistle?

There’s a secret message written in Morse Code! Can you decode it?

AY: Is this the first word of the secret message?

AA decodes the secret message written in Morse Code.

IA decodes it by himself.

JE: I have decoded it!

Let’s learn to play Batu Seremban (5 Stones).

What games can you play with these bottle caps?

AN shows AY how to play the bottle cap flicking game.

AA plays with the bottle caps, creating her own game.

Bottle caps are fun!

Art Challenge: Making Your Own Board Game

Let’s create our own board games to entertain everyone.

SH: I am making a Transformers board game.

IA: This is my board game.

JE: I am starting with the die first.

AY: I am making a coloured die first.

AA finishes her own board game, complete with a shape die.

Let’s play it!

Taking Turns

In all the excitement of Special Celebrations and Exhibition, the Eagles forgot to wait and take turns to speak, rushing to speak as they wish.

The Guide invited the PS Eagles to raise their hand to indicate that they have something to say/ask. This is so that one person speaks at a time and there is clarity.

Riddle Time

Those Eagles who come in early to meetings ask each other riddles. Notable riddles for the week:
JE: What do you call a witch who lives in a desert? A sandwich!

AA: Mr. Blue lives in a blue house. Mr. Yellow lives in a yellow house. Who lives in a White House? The President!

Special Celebrations

ZA’s Birthday Walk on Tuesday

The PS Eagles sing happy birthday to ZA as she walks around the birthday cake. Every revolution around the cake symbolises a journey around the sun – the passing of a year.

The PS Eagles wish ZA, “Happy Birthday!”

AN’s Leaving Ceremony on Friday

AN talks about his journey onwards to another school. He told us how he felt at that moment.

ZA wishes AN all the best and tells him that she will miss him and remembers how he likes to play, ‘Ninja Now’ with everyone.

IA says he will miss AN too.

JE says that he will miss AN and remembers how he dressed up as a ninja anddid flips on the sofa at home.

SH remembers how AN would make origami Ninja Stars, and would play with SH in the PS Studio.

Goodbye Aunty! Goodbye AN! We wish you all the best on your next great adventure!

Weekly Elementary Studio (ES) Update

Exhibition Week

The ES Eagles were in high gear … working on their videos, completing their stories and working on the Exhibition site.

This Sprint, the Exhibition Planning Committee consisted of the 5 Squad Leaders. They had to create their page for their Squads and follow up on each of their Squad members’ progress.

How will the Exhibition look this round?

Every Eagle has their own script and videography style.

Some script and plan things out, some use their instinct to wing it.

Some use props, some present verbally. Some speak. some rely on actions and text.

In the end, the Eagle’s personalities all shine through.

Struggles and Learning

While working on her Exhibition video, an Eagle was faced with failure and disappointment.

“She was working on it for quite a few days, actually. We tried to do the shooting yesterday, but something went wrong. The trap isn’t working. She wanted to show the trapping of small animals.”

“Today, we changed to a first aid demonstration, but her friends (our neighbour) refused to be in her video and she was quite upset about it this morning. She had her whole script done. So we are making another attempt to do the trapping again…”

“She cried a lot this morning as she practised the script last night … she kept mentioning she promised a video … and she refused her dad to be in her video…”

Nevertheless, the Eagle persevered and pushed through. During the post-Exhibition reflection, she said:

“I learned that if I fail, I will try and try again, and that it’s OK when someone says no.”

Wow! What a powerful journey!
