Build a Tribe 2021-2022 Sprint 1 Week 6

Weekly Updates

Preschool / Spark Studio (PS) Update

Mr Daniel is Saved!

At the beginning of the Sprint, Mr Daniel was captured by the Big Bad Man. Throughout the Sprint, the Quest has been to free Mr Daniel by completing 5 Challenges along the way. This week, they Eagles tackle the Final Challenge – a Treasure Hunt!

The Eagles had to hunt for the correct Clue Cards along the way. Just as they were trying to open the Treasure Chest with the Clue Cards, the Big Bad Man dashed in! He had been watching and listening!

The Big Bad Man demanded the Treasure Chest be given to him, as well as the Clue Cards. The Eagles handed the Chest and Cards over in exchange for Mr Daniel … and he was free! HOORAY!

The important Clue Cards!

“I demand that you give me the Treasure Chest and Clue Cards!”

“Yes! It’s mine! All mine!”

“He’s all yours! I’m leaving now.”

Art & Craft – Glitter/Calming Jar

Glitter, colours, water, glycerin and sequins! The PS Eagles made lovely Glitter/Calming Jars!

Questions, observations and admiration were the feelings in the Studio:

Why add glycerin and glue?

What will happen if there’s no glycerine or glue?

Do I pour all the colours in? Or just two drops?

Why is my glitter all stuck together?

Why are there bubbles? I don’t want bubbles …. how to get rid of those bubbles?

I’ll let it sit for a night and see if the bubble will be gone.

Look, mine turned green! Blue and gold make green!

The materials all enticingly set up.

By now, the Eagles know how to conduct themselves to take their materials in an orderly fashion.

R in fascination. watching the materials interact with each other.

AX experiments with how to introduce the liquid to the mixture.

The more glitter, the merrier.

Chinese Session – My Family 我 的 家 人

The Eagles made portraits of their mum and dad using modeling clay. Can you spot yourself, parents?

My 妈 妈’s hair is curly.

TA-DA! I’m done with my 妈 妈.

Growing in Friendship and Courage

JE has previously not played football with the boys. Today:

AX: Hi JE! Do you want to play football?

JE: Look at my new shoes! I can’t play football with my new shoes. I need socks.

MAR: No need, you can kick.

AX: Watch me … just like that!

JE walked in a circle for a little while, working up his courage. He finally said:

Yes! I would like to play football!

The love, acceptance and guidance from his peers has brought JE out of his shell beautifully. What a heartwarming story.

A butterfly emerging from his cocoon, coaxed out by love and acceptance.

Express Yourself

AX: I perfected my sword at home. I connect the two swords I made at school, taped the two together with lots and lots of tape. See, this part is the strongest because I taped it many many times. It won’t break. I cut the last part off (the red handle bit) because it’s too soft. I just want the hard part to be the handle.

Explanations such as Axel’s allow them to practice the articulation of their ideas.

AX confidently shared about how he upgraded his sword.

JE writes for a purpose … to create a manual based on his experiences of how to use Luka. In doing so, he practises expressing himself in a specific way, and serves his community.

In sharing his experience, JE benefits others.

Special Celebration

Happy early birthday, SY! SY will turn 5 in a couple of days, so the PS Eagles celebrated his Hero’s Journey thus far by singing as he literally went around the sun 5 times (symbolising 5 years). Mr J came to share some stories about SY, and everyone cheered and wished him. Happy Birthday, SY! Continue to grow in your light and love and strength!

It’s been a challenging 6 weeks for the PS Eagles, but they have adapted well, matured, and grown in friendships!

Weekly Elementary Studio (ES) Update

High Gear

It’s Exhibition Week! It’s Exhibition Week! All the Eagles were in high gear, working on their videos and biographies.

In presenting a topic to others, Eagles will explore and research more into it for themselves – a more practical way to learn than reading dead material about it.

Two Squads were able to complete their videos at the beginning of the week. Their videos were presented to the Studio and they were given feedback on how they could improve.

“i can’t hear what you were saying in the video, could you add subtitles to your video?”

“One part of your video was cut off.”

After receiving feedback, the got back to editing their videos.

One Eagle who was struggling to complete her biography asked her fellow Eagle to assist her. They huddled together and worked on it, taking breaks in between.

After completing the editing of the videos, both Squads started working with other Squads to assist them to complete the videos for Exhibition, offering help in the form of skill and direction.

The Studio managed to put everything together before the day of the Exhibition. They managed to test the links on the website and check for errors, too, correcting them before the show went on. Kudos to the Eagles for pulling it all together!

Reflection and Feedback

The next day, the Studio looked through the feedback that they received and reflected on lessons learned.

“I learned that I need to improve with my speaking.”

“We worked on a tight schedule. For the next Sprint, I would want to spread it out.”

“Editing the video was a real challenge, and I learned a lot from it.”

“I learned that I need to speak louder and use a better camera.”

“I learned that I need to speak slower and give my Squad members more lines.”

“It’s my first time writing a biography. I learned how to write one.”

Well done, Eagles! See you in the next Sprint!
